Az „Elkötelezett Polgár” jókedvű adakozó

A Forbes magazin és a Bridge Budapest Elkötelezett Polgár kitüntetését vette át a napokban Kovács Levente református presbiter. Erre a független, tekintélyes díjra olyan személyeket jelölnek, akik vállalható módon felépített magánvagyonukból rendszeres és arányaiban is jelentős adakozók, valamint a támogatásuknak köszönhetően nagy hatású program valósult meg. A kitüntetés indoklásában kiemelték a Kovács Levente által kigondolt és finanszírozott Evangélium21 című képzőművészeti gyűjteményt, amely Jézus életét és hatását mutatja be kortárs magyar művészek értelmezésében. A nagy hatású gyűjtemény első kiállítása Debrecenben, a Modemben volt (mint arról a Reformátusok Lapja is beszámolt), márciusban pedig Rómában nyílik meg a következő tárlat.

Recently, Levente Kovács, a Reformed presbyter, received the Committed Citizen award from Forbes magazine and Bridge Budapest. This independent and prestigious award is given to individuals who, from their reasonably amassed private wealth, regularly and significantly contribute, and whose support has led to the realization of impactful programs. In the justification for the award, they highlighted Kovács Levente’s conceived and funded art collection called „Evangelium21,” which presents the life and impact of Jesus through the interpretations of contemporary Hungarian artists. The highly influential collection’s inaugural exhibition took place at the Modem in Debrecen (as reported by the Reformátusok Lapja), and the next exhibition will open in March in Rome.

Kovács Leventét rendszeres egyházi adományozóként is ismerhetjük, többek között pápai diákokat segített hozzá féléves amerikai tanulmányúthoz, úrasztali kelyheket, illetve úrasztalát adományozott rászoruló gyülekezeteinknek, támogatta református iskoláink matematikaversenyeit, elindította a Budapesti Protestáns Szakkollégiumot.

Levente Kovács is also known as a regular church donor. Among other contributions, he helped Papal students to participate in a six-month study trip to the United States, donated communion chalices and communion tables to needy congregations, supported mathematics competitions in Reformed schools, and initiated the Budapest Protestant Collegium.

A Magyar Bankszövetség főtitkáraként irányítója a Jótett Bank nevű projektnek, amely évente háromezer véradaggal segíti betegek gyógyulását, a járvány idején kétezer diákot látott el informatikai eszközökkel, az elmúlt évben pedig több mint százezer fát ültetett. Személyes közreműködésével több, frissen alapított egyházi intézményt szereltek fel egykori bankszékházak bútoraival.

As the Secretary General of the Hungarian Banking Association, he oversees the „Good Deed Bank” project, which annually assists in the recovery of patients with three thousand blood donors. During the pandemic, it provided two thousand students with computer equipment, and in the past year, it planted over a hundred thousand trees. Through his personal involvement, several newly established church institutions were equipped with furniture from former bank headquarters.

Az őrbottyáni szeretetotthon fogyatékos gyermekeinek nyári üdültetése óta a magyarbólyi parókián Kovács Levente életének fontos része a református egyházért végzett önkéntes munka, melyet teljes jövedelmének legalább a tizedével egészít ki. Tekintettel arra, hogy ma Magyarországon sokkal több a támogatásra szoruló egyén, mint az adományozó, a személyes példamutatást és a saját forrásból való adakozást keresztyéni kötelességnek tartja. Az aktuális adományozási célt saját tapasztalatai alapján határozza meg.

Since organizing the summer vacations for disabled children at the loving home in Őrbottyán, volunteering for the Hungarian Reformed Church has become an integral part of Levente Kovács’s life, which he supplements with at least a tenth of his total income. Considering that in Hungary today there are far more individuals in need of support than donors, he views personal example and giving from one’s own resources as Christian duties. He determines the current donation target based on his own experiences.
